D.S.S. MOTORS

My latest 5.0 mag. has specs on all these crate engines. The D.S.S. bullet 306(power adder)has 404hp and 365lbs of tq at the motor, they said that is good for 11.30-40 E.T.'s. And wih a 150 shot of nitrous it is a mid to low 10 second engine. The GT40 crate motor puts out 302hp and 330lbs of tq very disappointing to me, as they claim 345hp with the bolt-ons they listed. But I went to D.S.S.'s web site and they have a 396w motor for like $6299 or around there. And I know it would make more hp and tq, and probaly be stronger for nitrous? What all woul I need for the swap? Anything special? I know headers, and the usual, fuel pump, inectors. But what kind and what sizes? But then again if the 306 motor from them runs 11.30's all motor, and 10's with nos, what more could you ask for, plus it's a $1000 cheaper than the 396, give me your thoughts. Thanks. Oh andone other thing I just bought a new SD T-5 it would not last very long on a 10 second or 11 second would it? And would you guys recommend a Tremec, if so what kind?

I think that the 396 is a stroked 351 and so there would be a little more involved in swapping it. Different headers ,brackets for a.c.,power steering, etc. You would also need a taller hood. I personally have a 347 stroker from CHP. I'm running 30lb injectors,C&L 76mm mas,Holley SystemaxII heads&intake.I am running a rebuilt t-5 but i know that this engine could easily scatter the trans.I would go with the tremec

I'm running a DSS 331. These guys seem like they know theie $hit. If you tell them what ypour goal is (n20 for example), they will build your motor with that in mind. I have seen people post on this board that DSS just puts out cookie cutter motors right off the sheflf, but that was not the way mine was done. Mine was built to order. How your car runs depends on the whole system mass air to the slicks. Make sure you've got it all covered. My car is only running 11.90's. It should be much quicker, but I can only turn 6200 rpm & have a 3.73 gear. The T-5 I have came from D&D it's just a 2.95 gear special. It has stood up to a beating for many years including 5500 rpm launches & 1.5X 60' times.
