Default Depress clutch = stumbling engine

Hello all,

Yesterday I purchased a 1988 LX 5.0 Convertible. So far it's been awesome with the exception of one problem. If the car is idling in neutral it has no problem whatsoever. But, if you depress the clutch about 1/2 to all of the way down the engine begins to stumble, regardless of whether or not the transmission is in gear. This is incredibly strange. I have no idea where to even begin. Thanks for any assistance.

By the way, if it makes a difference, the previous owner switched out the computer with one from a '91 GT.
