Default distributer?

Would I be able to use my 5.0 distributer on a carbed motor? If so, how would it know when to advance?

Wade, I dont think you can use a Dist. with a TFI on a carbed car. I'm using a MSD 8582. You may want to lock in your total timing, then use a start retard if you need to.

If I can get it to fire I think I can get it to work. I am looking at the msd timing computer. The way it would work is I would set my distributer to 32-35btd, and the computer pulls out 20 on the start, and slowley brings it back to full advance at 3000rpm.

The PIP off the TFI is the signl wire right? If so that should trigger the ignition.

Default distributor

I am using a duraspark 1 with a 351W carb motor. There are plenty of them around.

I have the 8582 MSD unit as well, but I had to get a different cam gear to work with the cam I have. Other than that, I was told to get a stock distributor from an 85 Carb'd stang. That way its still duraspark, steel cam gear, and fairly inexpensive. I don't think using the TFI dizzy will work, but hey, anything is possible with the right inginuitey. The only thing I have to see is if my oil pump d/s will work with my distributor.
