Default distributor gear?

Is there a way to tell an aluminum gear from a steel one. I need a steel gear since my 351 is a roller. I know aluminum is soft so I took a little screwdriver & scratched a small line on the distributor housing to see how soft it is since it's aluminum. Pretty easy to scratch. Then I tried to do the same on the gear. Impossible, so I'm pretty sure it's steel.

They dont make an aluminum gear... cast iron or steel from the factory. Or bronze aftermarket.

Probably cast iron then. Unless the engine came with a roller cam.
