Default What 302 Distributor to buy?

I need a new distributor for my 1967 coupe, 302, 4bbl. Any suggestion on which brand I should buy?

I like the Crane dist. or the MSD. They are both fully adjustable.

Don't care for Uni-light. Have had them and have had them fail too.

I 2nd that. I have the Uni lite and I would also recommend staying away from it, as would some other members as well.

You could always consider a petronix kit as well.

Gearhead's right on the money. I still use a Unilite, but do not recommend them. The Unilite module used to last only 20,000 miles or so for me. I've heard that a voltage spike filter from Mallory helps in that respect. I still wouldn't buy one again.

I might add that since I changed to a MSD 6-AL box from a Mallory Hy-Fire 6-AL, the problem seems to have disappeared. I still won't ever again buy anything Mallory.

To get off the rant and answer the original question, I would use the MSD with the magnetic pickup if I was buying now.

Duraspark. If you want later, hook a MSD box to it.

I have the pentronix HEI distributor, which is a good distributor so far, though its quite tall and doesnt allow me to run a normal air cleaner.

So, I get the impression that my lovely little Uni Light is going to go tits up on me soon? I have had it for about 32,000 miles with absolutely no problems... but I am now thinking about buying their active power filter thingy, after reading...

Ideas?

THanks,

Aaron

Well, yours may last a long time. Just a lot of us have had issues with ours. I installed the filter but I haven't put a lot of miles on the car. Lasted 4-5 years now though.

I had a Unilite crap out on me years ago. After that I carried an extra plate with me.

P.S. Never needed the spare, AFTER I bought it..LOL

I also wouldn't suggest the petronix. The ginormous piece of junk wasn't coming anywhere NEAR fitting thanks to my intake manifold, ALL of my air cleaners, etc. I don't know who designed the thing, but they should have actually taken a look at the kind of cars they're being put on. Totally useless.

I just ended up putting the original back in and it runs great. You may not want that, though, it's not the fanciest thing out there.
