![]() Ok, heres the deal. I want to buy this 91 5.0 notchback to sell and make a little money. It has 42k original miles on it. It is bone stock and very clean. The guy just put new tires on it. No rust. The interior is in very nice shape. Its a really nice car. He is asking $5,000 for it. Most 5.0 mustangs I see with low original miles sell for a lot more around here. What do you guys think? What should I ask for it when I sell it? Do you think I could make money on this car? Also what should I look closlely at on the car before I buy it?

![]() 5 speed or auto.? And how do you know they are orignal miles? 91 Notch 5.0 is most stang'ers dream car, I think if it's a really clean 5 speed with 42k original, you could get at least $6000-6500. I'd buy it for 6.

![]() The notch is one of the hottest Stangs you can get, and they are harder to come by. Before you buy anything make sure it is checked by a mechanic and find out why he is selling it. You don't wanna get stuck sinking money into it because you thought it was a good deal but something was seriously wrong under the nice paint. If it checks out ok then I think it would be worth more than $5000 too. Maybe you should get a Carfax report on it too just to be safe. Thats just my opinion though.

![]() carfax can only help slightly with mileage. it lists everything on that car's registration (accidents, insurance claims, etc). it will list mileages, but only when the car transferred ownership. If i am mistaken, someone will correct me, but i am 99% sure about that.

![]() That is a KILLER deal. I wouldn't pass that up buddy. If you do, let me know, I'll buy it. Two months ago I was considering selling my 91 notch so I can buy a brand new GT (decided that I couldn't let my notchy go). I put an ad up and in less than 24 hours I had three people that were willing to pay the price I was asking. Mine has 170,000+ miles, pretty much stock and a new T5-Z tranny. I asked $4500. If this notch has that little miles and is clean, you should be able to turn a couple thousand in profit easily. Like I said though, if you don't get it, let me know...

![]() Go to the registry and see if you can't get one of the "nice people" there to help you out. They can tell you how many miles were on it the last time it was registered. If that doesn't work ask the guy what insureance company he uses. Tell him your searching for a new one or something. Then call them up and see if they can help you. You need to fill out an annual milage report for them, so they will have an accurate idea from last years report. But they might not be willing to help. Its always worth a shot.

![]() 42K, Is 3800 miiles a year.....I don't know about that...I'd be willing to bet it has 142k. Maybe not though. You can really not tell the original miles if you had to.....but here is a tip, look at the odometer reading, and if all the numbers aren't lined up perfectly it's been turned back. Even if it had 142k, and really, really clean still a decent buy. But..it's up to you.

![]() I have an 87 with about 50k on it, I bought the car nearly new so I put all the miles on myself, so I know it is accurate. But, in your case you will have to take a close look at the car. Check things like brake and clutch pedal for wear. If the car has a lot of miles it will show up here. Look closely at the drivers seat, if it is in good shape chances are the miles are accurate. Also look at the door seal at the floor, this will show signs of wear on high mileage Mustangs because many people drag their foot across it getting into the car.
FYI I had a 90 notch that I sold a couple of years ago for $4900, the car had about 110k miles on it. |

![]() I'm not sure but I think the numbers should line up pretty much perfectly. You can also tell if the previous owner turned back the miles on the title. That shouldsay how many miles were on it.

![]() That numbers lining up perfectly is a bunch of bull-crap, dont believe it.
Ive had 10 cars, and I dont think any one of them had perfectly lined up numbers. You should be able to tell from the engine compartment the difference between 42K and 142K, as well as the other areas mentioned. If its clean, the engine is clean, and it runs good, go for it. |
