Default Do your Autometer mech. oil press. guages make noise?

I got the Ford Racing (made by Autometer) mechanical oil pressure guage for christmas, as well as the water temp guage. They look sweet.

But when I installed it, I had the copper line resting on the valve cover and the small amount of rocker noise I have was resonating through the line into the guage and I could hear it inside the car. Well today I moved the line away from the valve cover and it took the noise from the rockers away but it still has a slight noise. It kinda sounds like a slight hiss.

It's not too bad, and I've gotten used to it, but if no one else's does this then it's probably my particular guage and I need to exchange it for a new one.

Just checkin if anyone else's does this,
Thanks everyone

Mine has never made any noise. I would "Guess" that if its a hissing sound yoiu have a leak of some type. Check your connections and make sure but thats just a guess

I can't say that I've ever heard one make noise, although it's usually kinda hard to hear!

Take care,
-Chris

well i listened to it again, and its not really a hiss, its kinda more like a buzz.

when i first put it in, i got some teflon tape in one of the fittings and then i blew all of them out with compressed air, including the guage, i'm thinking this may have hurt the guage (although it reads fine).

Was it a bad idea to do that, or would it not hurt it?

Wouldn't harm the oil pressure gauge, but could damage the water temp.

Take care,
-Chris

i have the same guages ..i have the whole set up as you can see..mine did make a noise at one time..i started my car and it made a slight pop and would kinda hiss gurgle...found out that there was a kink in the line and the presure poped it and i had a puddle of oil in the back of my vent and it ran down onto the carpet on the floor....not to bad...but id check your line good ..NO KINKS

DemonGT I'll have to check that out, I think thats probably it because it may have kinked when I was fiddling with it to get it in the pod.

Your setup is alot like mine, except my tach is the SVO one and my guages are on the A-Pillar.

thanks

them being in a A pillar should help..my oil gauge is the one to the far left cause thats the side the hole is in to run the wires and lines and when it kinked it was at a almost 90 degree angle..had to do some cuting on the inner side part of the vent housing...the gauge in the middle is a volt meter..but when i get blown ill replace it with a boost gauge.....well peace out
