Default Please help with launch rpm

Went to HRP on sunday for the first time. I have a lot of driving experience, just at Gainesville Raceway. Track hook's great, much better than I'm used to. I was launching on mcreary's at 12psi, no burnout. 3200 rpm and side step clutch. They would dead hook, cause the car to jump out the hole then bogg down then go again. My question is on stock 185K drivetrain should I just try side stepping the clutch at 2k instead of higher to elimanate the violent shock or be a man and try 4500 rpm. What rpm is it gonna take to not cause a bogg w/ my 3.55's. Thanks. Oh 60's are at 1.90 right now.

if it was my car i would try 5000-5300 and see what happens....but you said that it had 140000+ miles on it, if you drive the car everyday and have no other means of tranportation i would just try launching at a lower rpm, but if this is your weekend driver (aka race car) step it up a notch a try 4000-4500-5000-5500.......just keep trying and find that happy median between hooking and spinning

or instead of side stepping the clutch..try to let it slip a TINY bit, that way it will take away some of the shock and maybe it wont bog so bad.

I guess there is just 2 questions I would have to ask. Is this your daily driver? And are you pretty financially stable? If it is not your daily driver and you are stable, I'd say go for it with the high RPM's. If you break something, you wont be in as bad of shape as some other people. If it is your daily driver, I'd be a little more careful. I am looking for a set of slicks, or cheater slicks, so I can see what all the rant about dumping the clutch at 4000 rpm on stickies is about. PM me next time you go to HRP, it is bout 5 minutes from my house and I can meet you there.

The car is my daily driver. I'm an automotive tech. student. i could probably come by some replacement axles if i really needed them. I think I might try a few 4000-4500 rpm launches next time. Who knows maybe the tires will give up the hook that high. If i didnt wear size 16 shoes I'd try the heel toe burn out method, but I guess being 6'7 has it's disadvantages.

Caymon, I will definately pm when we go to the track next time, probably this sunday and just about every sunday. About 5 or six of us UTI students will be heading out there a lot. You can try my tires, not slicks, but a lot better than radials. We have few mustangs, camaros, the usual. i think a couple of the guys from school drive rice out there, but they are pretty cool, they just drive garbage.

I tried slightly slipping the clutch twice and got wheel spin, pop the clutch and hook, strange. i will also try the 1500-2K launch and see where the 60's are. Nitrous in two weeks, so a whole new ball game there too.

I run the mccrearys and have same problem, hook good then bogs when i launch at around 3000, so last time i went out i tried launching around 4500 and letting car move before getting on gas and that helped drop my 60' time from 2.0's to 1.8's

Sean: on you car we'd probly need to launch on the rev limiter just to get it moving!

The strange thimg w/ the mcreary's is that if I try to walk them out, slowly release the clutch instead of popping it, the tires will spin badly. LXMike do you heat them up good? And how do they compare heated to just a dry hop? One day I'll own a line-lock.

I don't have a line lock so i just drive around the water and before hand i set my outside rearview mirror so that i can just look in it and when i can see the water area in it in know my tires are wet and i pull up a bit and in 2nd gear i rev to about 4000-4500 and dump it and gas it enough to keep them spinning but not hit the limiter and i get some tiresmoke that way.

Ouch! Man, I really got to get this thing moving so I don't have to take anymore hits like that! We'll just have to try your theory out, Mike! You don't need tread on those tires anyway, right????
Later!
