does size matter???
i haven't posted a topic in a while, so here it is.... Is everyone happy with the power capibilities of thier small block? Or do you sometimes yern for the low end tourque of a big block?

"Does size matter?"
Depends on how honest the woman is that you are asking!!! Honestly my car feels as if it has the same torque as my friends 396 chevelle. But he has less gear than me. I wouldn't mind a rumbling 351 under the hood.

With the amount of torque a smallblock can make and gears to get you in the powerband quickly, I don't see too much point in adding the extra weight of a big block, especially with the availability of stroker kits.
Most of the Pro 5.0 cars I see in the mag are small block strokers with power adders... |
I don't think that a big block is necessary to make your car pull like it has one. With the over abundance of aftermarket possibilities for Ford small blocks I think you could achieve just about anything. And big blocks might as well just be boat anchors.

I think it all depends on what you are driving and how you want to make your power.
You can always add a KB to the smallblock and get big block munching torque, but say a 427 dual quad is so cool, who cares if it makes any power (even though it does) hehe. I don't really yearn for BB. |
How do you make a big block Fast????!!!!!
MAKE IT RUN LIKE A smallblock!!!!!!!!!! NO joke |
For my car i'm going to go with a 427" stroked/bored 351 for the simple fact that with a large cam it'll idle better than a smaller engine, i'll have enough power to kill most vehicles, and although gas mileage won't exist it'll have plenty of torque so i won't ever have to change gears uphill and i'll make it a mid range engine so i don't have to wrap the holy hell out of it or boost the crap out of it, which hopefully will make for a very long lasting engine. If i had a choice between a BOSS 302 engine or a mild 460 i'd have to go with the 302 for the simple fact that they sound wicked and epitomize the muscle car era, but that would be very expensive and for me the 427 is a relatively cheap long lasting choice and i'll never wish for more torque because i'll already have too much....i don't even remember what i was getting at, oh well.
