8.8 rear-end bolt on weight?

How important is that peice that bolts onto the rear-end and seems to serve no other purpose but to add weight?

Its an NVH damper...
Just yank it, 99% of use already did.

NVH = Noise, Vibration & Harshness. Mostly a manufacturers term.

The weight is a dampener but not really necessary, especially if you change the stock differential gears. It weighs about 5 pounds.

That's good to hear, as I didn't want to put it back onto my freshly painted differential.
