dont know a thing about stroking or boring

I was just looking for some information about what buying a stroker kit involves, like what all has to be done to stroke a motor. Also, whats the differnce between boring and stroking. And what is involved with boring out a motor. And is this all really expensive?

Boring is making the cylinder wall even larger. This is usually done to clean up any scratches or misperfections that could have been caused by normal wear and tear prior to the tear down if any.
Stroking is adding length to the stroke of a crankshaft.
Stroking an engine requires new crank, pistons and rods. Special notches are usually done to the block as well to make room for the rods. Boring just requires replacing of the pistons.
Cost varies... You can pick up new pistons from $15-$80+ a piece. Plus having the machine work done.
Check your local machine shop for prices.

o ok i think i get it. so thats why you can, for example, bore to a 306 but stroke a 5.0 to something like a 331. i guess the car wouldnt pass emmissions though would it? This is my only car and i want to do a big mod like stroke, bore, or a power adder, so im just looking at my options and finding the most cost effecient and most practical mod for a daily driver. thanks for your help. i learn something new every day.

Depends om how deep your povkets are???
Limited budget, just do a 306,with good heads and blower. Stroker kits require better parts and alot of the times a stong block for new found power.
***Very general answer***
Good luck
