drag radials or slicks...
i was wondering how other people felt about drag radials vs. slicks. I have a 90 mustang gt with little modification such as headers, exhaust, rear gears, underpulley's, and i was just trying to get more traction down the track. what should i go with?....any brands?

Re: drag radials or slicks...
M/T ET Drag! 26x10.5 or if you roll your fenders, 28 x 10.5 Since your car's mods are little, you'll probably go faster with the 26 x10.5 Less mass to move once you get rollin. My friend had drag radials, they lasted for about 1 year. They hooked extremely well, but they wear out fast. I prefer one set for the street only and one set for the track only.

Re: drag radials or slicks...
my car personally prefers drag radials, it went faster on bfg drag than on MT ET STREETS by about 2 tenths an 2 mph

Re: drag radials or slicks...
Right now my car is sitting on 28/11.5 ET streets, and I like 'em. However, a few of my friends went with the Mickey ET radials, and I gotta say, I'm impressed!
Talked to a M/T rep, and he said they don't work as well on a stick shift car, but they really work well on my buddies 69 Chevelle with a handbox. Another friend has them on a slush box Impala, and he hooks REALLY well! |

As for what to get, drag radial or a slick...the slick has my vote. There are a lot of new drag radials on the market though. But IMO nothing beats doing a big 'ol burnout to heat the slicks up, revving the engine up to 6,000rpms & letting the clutch fly on the 2nd amber light! Oh what a feelin!! :D |
Re: drag radials or slicks...
find a set of ten hole rims and get a set of et drags. do like simi said and you'll still be smiling when you get your time slip the first time yu drop the clutch at 6k. :D

Re: drag radials or slicks...
Get the MT drag radials. I have 255/50/16 on my car. They hook like glue.
They are the worlds quickest drag radials. Some organizations have outlawed them because of there performance. |
Re: drag radials or slicks...
They're both good, you'll have to decide if you'd rather run a different set of tires at the track or if you want something you can run on the street and then drop the pressure at the track and get good performance out of. The slicks will put stock axles and possibly stock transmissions at risk more than the drag radials, but it's hard to beat the hook you get from them. The drag radial will allow you better street traction and will allow you to run in DOT classes at the track and get good performance without switching to a dedicated tire-and will be easier on drivetrain parts.
I've got a se of 275/40-17 Nitto drag radials for the street and a set of 26x10 ET drags for the track myself. |
