![]() My car has been running weird lately, and I had no clue why. It will want to die on start up only when cold, I'm getting vibration thats shakes the whole car at highway speeds, and the motor is starting to develop a slight ticking. I thought the ticking was a header leak, but its not. Now I'm thinking the ticking is related to the harmonic balancer being bad. I took a look at the damper and it has a slight wooble, not good hu? Will just replacing the balancer be fine or could there be more damage cause of the slight ticking I'm now hearing. Or, is the ticking caused by the out of balance damper, and will go away when the damper is replaced?

![]() If the balancer has a wobble you need to replace it .There is a elastomer(spelling) ring inbetween the two metal pieces and there is nothing else holding the outer ring on.I had one to come off on my 95 gt it wasn't pleasant.Ireplaced it with another stock balancer(hardheaeded hehe)and I caught the second one goin out on me also ,hey at least I learned lol!I replaced the second one with a romac right before I sold the car.Hmmmm this has me wanting to go and check the one on my 88,anyway I say don't drive the car until you replace it or you could end up having to replace more than the balancer like me .I fyou do have to drive it keep the rpm's down.Dunno if that will help but it kinda makes sense .Good luck!
