DSS RACING
Has anyone heard anything bad about this company? I'm intersted to hear good/bad things. I'm about to pick up a block from them and just want to hear everyone's opinions on that company.

I've heard a few good and bad things. I can't remember the specifics. I can say that I've heard more good than bad, though. The only real drawback I can see is that they're production line builders. They don't usually tailor an engine for someone's particular needs. If you're only getting a bare block, you should be fine. No reputable shop could screw up block preperation (at least I hope not).

I've got a DSS 331. No problems. I'm confused about the production line builders thing. It took a couple weeks to get my engine. I had to order it & it really wasn't just an off the shelf motor. I only have 200 miles on it so far but its a rocket.

A rocket eh? I'm still debating what to get the 331 or 306. I don't know if I want to spenk an extra 1k for a 331. God damn it...tough call. If it's only 40hp difference I think I should save me a 1k and buy some axles. Anyway what kinda times you turnin n20lx? I bet you didn't beat it up at the track yet though....

Ditto the 331. It is awsome. I also had to order mine (O-ring deck and Twisted wedge pistons).
Motor is very tight. Piston to wall clearance is superb. I have 300 miles on the break in and I am dying to hook up the blower. This is the 2nd DSS motor for me and I have seen (and seen run) 3 others. All their motors seem to be excellent. A side note for the 331. You will need a new flywheel and harmonic balancer due to the engine balance being different than the 302. They balance the motor to a 351W balance. Expect to spend another couple hundred for these parts. Mike ------------------ Live near St.Louis? Check out Mustang Muscle and Dyno in High Ridge, MO Check out my ride. |

No times yet. Its just too cold around here to hit the track. The 306 & 331 aren't a straigh comparison. You'll be gtting new rods & a new crank v/s reworked factory stuff. I spend the extra bucks & got the forged crank & power added rings. As the money rolls in I plan to run a big dose of the ha ha ha. I can tell you this, I did change to a bigger cam (.500 to .550) but the engine just flat pulls through out the power band. The car feels like it has too much gear in it, but it just that it accelerates so much faster that I always speeding before I know it. It even pull hard in 5th.

Sweet. I like what I'm hearing. There is another place out there that I have been talking to and it's Fox-Lake they seem very cool themselves. However, it will be 8 weeks for their motor...

I ordered a 347 pro street stroker short block from coast high performance. I went with them because their piston pin does not intersect with the oil ring land. Hopefully it will be here in about 2 weeks. I haven't heard anything bad about DSS. Good Luck

Coast high performance uses probe industries pistons and I do beleive that all of the stroker kits and short blocks have these offset pin bores. This is supposed to help with oil consumption but i'm more interested in passing the northeast ohio emissions test.
