Default Dustcover Behind Flywheel? HELP FAST

It finally stoped raining enough here for me to start doing my flywheel/clutch install. Well i got a new flywheel and pilot bearing and rear main and all installed. Well i got finished putting up the p.p and clutch and was going to reinstall the bellhousing and realized that i left off the metal plate that sits right behind the flywheel ( the plate that the 2, 1/2 bolts on the bellhousing bolt into at the bottom of the BH). My questions is how vital is this plate and what happens if i dont put it back in?

I only ask this becuz when i had my old chevy truck i had a turbo 400 tranny installed and they left off the dust cover off that gaurds the flywheel becuz "it cools the tranny fast and prolongs the life of it. Dust doesnt get into it becuz it spins so fast." So i need to know this like asap becuz i want my ride back on the road and if i can leave it off with no problems then cool if not then i gotta put it on before i go any further.
thanks
bryan

hmm, im assuming your talking about the one on the bottom, my car didnt even come with one when i bought it, yea finnaly no rain here either in s.a., you should be fine, as long as it's not the plate behind the flywheel with like 4 bolts.

uhh, if it's just two bolts, why not just throw it back on?

yea i dont know, its one peice plate that is oddly formed with a few circle holes and it goes behind the flywheeland then you bolt up the flywheel and the pp n clkuthc and at the bottom of the bell housing you bolt in 2 small bolts to hole the plate to the bellhousing and one by the starter. what does the plate serve a purpose as and do i need to put it on please help.

ok, this is not the dust cover if im correct, dewd im pretty sure it's needed, you might be alright without it for a day or so, does it require pulling all that apart to put it on?
it's been a while since i had my bellhouse off, but yea i know what your talking about, the starter goes next to it, someone else will help you, but i dont know how soon, i do remember an old post about this, and the guy said to put it back on.
you might be able to run a search on this site, but search in windsor, also, another site you may know about since your a texan www.texasracingscene.com and go to ford section.
i'll ask around.
