Post E303 vs 2031

These cams have almost the same specs, except that the 2031 has a bit less intake duration. But why do so many people have bad idle problems with the E? I've heard many more complaints about the E, and none about the 2031 so far. Does the split duration of the 2031 help with the idle, and/or does the 2031 pull more vacuum than the E?

because E lob separation is 110* & it cause the bad idle, but 2031 lob separation is 112*.

E303s do not have a bad idle. Mine idles perfectly at 650-700rpm. There are a million things that can cause a bad idle, but for some reason people insist on blaming it on the cam.

I agree. Most people change 50 things at once and then think the cam sucks.

Besides, you think the E is wild, I got meeself an "F". Yeehaw baby!

So does more lobe sep equal more vacuum, therefore a better idle? It seems that about 2/3 of the people with an E dont like it (from the posts I've read), and I'm sure most aren't just morons who don't know a thing about tuning a car after a cam swap. I know the E or 2031 isn't that wild, but I didn't consider any of the alphabet cams in the first place when I did mine.

2031 here, and I love it. It idles just rough enough to sound mean, but smooth enough to run an auto trans(needs a stall though). My only gripe is that I needed longer pushrods.

I've got an E303 w/ TFS Twisted Wedge heads and TFS 1.7rr, and my car idles fine. It also runs great and has lots of torque across the board. Guy that built my engine says it is the best cam combo he's ever driven in a street mustang.

Ditto. I have had real good luck with the E cam and 1.7's. Even before the S trim. I've heard good and bad about both. Flip a coin! Either way you'll be happy. I personally stayed away from the 2031 do to 2 friends having a hard time with them. That and the E cam was e legal.

I'm running the 2031 in my 86, soon to be transplanted to the 93. It's got a lopey idle, but good driveability and pulls strong to 6000. The guy that dyno'd it remarked on the nice flat torque curve - 268 ft/lbs at 1500 RPM, peaked at 313 at 3500, and 270 at 5500.
