EEC ERROR CODE 96

I ran the EEC ERROR CODE TESTER and it gave me error code 96- high speed fuel pump relay defect. Is the relay in/on the fuel pump.
=>that way i can get a new pump and install it.

HELP!

PKRWUD 10-08-2001 05:52 AM

I don't know what year your car is, but odds are the relay is under your drivers seat. Sorry.

Take care

PKRWUD, Its a 92 Ford Mustang 5.0.

The error code again is. 96:Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Fault/ HIgh speed fuel pump relay open.

PKRWUD 10-10-2001 01:10 AM

Replace the relay under your seat.

DAMN!!!

Where would i buy the part? Would a place like kragen/Checkers/SHucks carry a part?
What would i call it?

PKRWUD 10-13-2001 02:09 AM

Fuel pump relay. Any auto parts store will have it.

PKRWUD, I forgot to ask if the relay was UNDER the seat/ABOVE the carpet; Or under the seat UNDER THE CARPET????
thanks,

D&R Stang 10-26-2001 01:03 PM

it's above the carpet, under the driver's seat. There's a metal bracket there that holds it. If you take the seat out, then you can't miss it. If you don't want to take the seat out, then you can replace it with your hands, but you likely won't be able to see what you're doing. Therefore if you've never dealt with it before, you probably should take the seat out.

caliplaya650 10-27-2001 08:18 PM

PKRWUD, I didnt find the Relay under the seat. I looked around and read that for 92/93 Stangs it was moved to the Front of the Passanger side strut tower? Is that right? Also how would i know which relay it is i looked and there are about four. 2 mounted on the fenderwell behind the MAF,
and another two facing the back of the car on the strut tower.
WHICH ONE!?!?!? CHOICES CHOICES CHOICES!!

It is on the forward side of the tower, and should have 5 wires going to it.

PKRWUD,
I located the fuel pump relay, replaced it w/ a new one and NOTHING!! it still didnt work. Could it be that i just need a new fuel pump?

PKRWUD 11-08-2001 01:53 AM

Forgive me, but what was the problem in the first place? I see that there is/was a code 96, but other than that, what? I'm sorry, but I get wrapped up in so many of these each month that I forget individual specifics. Enlighten me.

Take care,
-Chris

Sup Chris,

It started w/ the "Cant Wont Go after 2500 RPM" topic. But to this day i still havent been able to fix that. the Car wont go accelerate after about 2500rpm. If i smash it into the passing gear the car seems like it dies down. It will also pop on the drivers side Pre-Cat. The MAF is fine to my knowledge.
DOnt know what else i can tell u about it

The code 96 came from the 92 mustang GT. Code 96 is the Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Fault/High Speed Fuel Pump Relay open.

I replaced the relay fuel pump relay (that was suppose to have been in under the drivers seat, but was in the engine compartment.) That didnt work. I ran the codes last night and i got back 11 11/11 11
Dont know what else to do. I have since replaced the fuel filter as a precaution.

The car has about 165,000 miles on it, recent tune-up. Cap, Rotor, Plugs (inspected them and they are fine.) Oil is fresh-5w-30,

Thanks for the help

Capri306: Who makes a GOOD fuel pump. I dont have a lot of dough! I've heard of walbro's theyre pretty cheap. BBK? Holley?
or aeromotive?

Your fuel pump is bad. Replace it with one worthy to be in a Mustang's fuel tank.

So replacing the relay did correct the code 96, but not the drivability problem. Ya know, reading it all at once, in the condensed version, it really does look like your fuel pump has petered out. That would explain alot, and I didn't realize your mileage.

Replace it, and we'll go from there, but honestly, I think that will solve your problem.

Take care,
-Chris

PKRWUD, I will be purchasing one soon i hope winter is coming and replacing a fuel pump in the snow doesnt sound like much fun. What type do you recommend?
O yah. I think i messed up on the previous post, the relay did not correct the code 96. I still had the same prob.
