![]() Hey guys,
I got about $700 I was planning on putting into my car and I wanted to put it towards exhaust right now. I got this guy who will sell me a set of unequal length shorty headers and an off road H-pipe, both from MAC, for about $300. I don't know how much they go for or how good of a product MAC is in that area. Please help me out with this guys, I don't have much time to waste. Also, how much should it cost for installation? I know I can do the h-pipe but I don't know if I want to mess around with the headers quite yet. And the new headers will also make tune-ups even more difficult, won't they? Thanks guys Scott

![]() no, that is not a good deal. new they are $150 for the headers and $120 for the h-pipe. so $270 brand new. if the parts you are looking at getting are used or dont include shipping then dont buy them...
get them through JD's performance; http://www.jdsperformance.com/ although MAC products arent anybody's first choice due to poor quality... take care, adam

![]() also, if you guys don't think I should go mac or even hold out on the headers altogether, what do you think I should spend my moeny on. I see that jds performance has the trickflow upper and lower intake manifolds for about $365. Do you think maybe I should go that way or where should I go. Also, please include installation costs on difficult jobs(dont forget, I'm a beginner at this stuff).

![]() Gears and then exhaust! Those are the first things that should be done to any stock stang. Don't worry about fancy intakes at this point! If you don't already have a good set of gears that would be the first thing to do. Stay away from mac headers! I had a set of mac headers and hated the way mac uses individual flanges on the headers, they warp and never fit properly. Just got my solid BBK's installed and they were much easier! I do have a mac h-pipe and haven't had a problem with that.

![]() The only problem with the gears is that I do a lot of highway driving to and from work, at least 45 mnutes each way depending on traffic. I already spend enough on gas and don't know how much that would cost me.
What do you guys think?

![]() When I went from 2:73's to 3:73's I didn't notice that big of a difference. Of couse there will be some difference in milage, just it was minimal in my case.

![]() hey Hiflow,
I just graduated UMASS so I was only a few minutes from you for a whlie. OK, so i'm estimating gears to be around $400 installed and I'll pick up an off road H for probably a little more than $100. If i'm wrong, fill me in. I'll install the H myself but there is no way in hell that i'm messin with the gears. |

![]() Scott, it seems that you have a 5 speed. For a street driven car that you will not be racing at the track, the gears won't be that big of a deal. The 3.35 first gear in the T-5 gets the car moving pretty good even with the 2.73's. For around town driving you will not see much of a mpg drop going to 3.55 or 3.73 gears as you will be able to use 5 th gear more often. For straight highway driving you will turn more rpm's and burn more gas.
I still may go to 3.27 or 3.55 gears down the road, especially if I end up getting a T-5Z with the 2.95 first gear.
