EGR bypass?

I had a slight miss a while back and I replaced a mass amount of sensors ect.(with no avail) and included in the new items was a new egr valve(ouch) because the old one was stuck beyond belief.
My question is...The EGR had to have been this was for as long time and ran just fine. Plus it makes no noticeable difference when unplugged, so do you think that the egr had been bypassed? If so how do you do that, and what does it involve?

i simply made aluminum block off plates a couple years ago for my EGR valve and my AIB..car still runs fine just a lil more lopey when cold and at an idle..bypassing the AIB in the winter is not a good idea becasue your car will run rought at an idle till she warms up
