Post HELP!!! Problems with new Electric Fan

OK, I just bought a Permacool 16" fan. Pulls 2950 cfm. Well, it runs hotter than it did with the stock POS. Runs better, and has lots more pick up, but the heating problem worries me. Before the fan in 100* weather it ran at about the 2nd mark on the meter, or even a little less with A/C off. Now it runs about the 2nd mark or a little hotter. Before with the A/C on in 100* weather, it ran about half way between the 2nd and half mark. Now it runs at about the half mark and higher.

IS THIS NORMAL??? Any help and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mates

Dustin

How do you have the fan wired up? When I intalled that fan it cooled my car soo much better. The stock fan was making my car over heat all the time. How are you runnign it thermo activated or by a switch?

Dustin I run the exact same fan with a Ron Davis radiator and Stewart water pump and it runs exactly what the thermostat is 180 degrees on my Mech. gauge, in 95 degree weather but I don't have A/C

My first suggestion is get a nice accurate gauge, I like my mechanical gauge because I always know what the temp is whihc helps at the track. The Perma-Cool thermo switch is JUNK it was supossed to come on at 170 degrees and it never came on unless I let it go to 210 degrees. I went to Advance Autoparts and got the Hays adjustable thermo, for $20 it works great and you can make it come on when ever you want.

Make sure the fan is blowing in the right direction? I know you probably have but I've seen it done

I have my fan wired through a soild state relay, that way I can have the thermo switch and I have a manual switch in dash switch panel I made so I can turn it on manually to cool everything down.

Good Luck Buddy

Thumbs up

Remember how water circulates in the cooling system. Mount the fan on the driver side.near the bottom.

Thanks Guys...

Sky, I have it set as a switch.

Rick, Funny that you said to make sure I set it up right at first, because at first I had it wrong BUT in my defense, I did as the instructions said, and THEY were wrong, so now it is fixed. I have a FMS 3 core radiator, and a stock water pump...maybe I should upgrade.

COME CORRECT, I can't install it near the bottom because I decided to leave my shroud on to direct airflow better.

Don't get me wrong guys, I love the fan and it cools fine WITH THE A/C off, but when you have days like yesterday, when it was 107*, and have to wear a suit and tie daily, you kinda like the A/C. My worry was just that with the A/C on it really heats up....to a boiling point.

Thanks Again
