Electrical help

My driver's side brake light is out. The catch is, it's only out when I apply the brakes. With my lights on and the bulb in the part-lit condition, it works. It's ONLY the driver's side...passenger works fine. Could there be a malfunctioning switch here? Why wouldn't the two be tied together though? This is confusing the heck out of me and I really don't need a ticket right now! Thanks.

Your brake light element is burnt out. The light bulb needs to be replaced. Nothing electrical, just the bright element is out

It's a DUAL Filament blub.. it's like a regular light bulb with two filaments in it and two sets of contacts... when you're lights are on it uses the less bright filament, and then when you apply the brakes it switches to the other BRIGHTER filament... I dunno if it uses a different bulb, but back in the day every car used 1156 or 1157 bulbs... 1156 was a single filement and the 1157 was the dual filament.. though now they might have different intensities and what not. Eitherway, it's no biggy.. just grab a new bulb and you'll be good to go
