Post Engine Building

I'm trying to figure out what I should put into a 302 engine. I have about a 2000 dollar budget just for the engine. I want to obtain more bang for the buck. I have thought of doing what I did to my fastback. I just thought that maybe for the amount I put into it I could have been able to get something beter. Any suggestions as to what type of pistons, cam, intake, heads, carb, lifters, and other goodies would be good to be added together. I dont want it to be over a 10.1 comp. Something that I could possibly drive daily. I would be using an auto c4 with a stall converter not too high maybe up to 1000 rpm over stock stall. A 9 inch rear. Would it be possible to make up to 320 hp at the flywheel with this amount of money?

Not unless you get decent used parts. Pistons and heads alone will put you over your budget. Good Luck

You could make that power if you spend half of your money on heads, this would leave you with a budget short block so you would need to be careful.

How much is resonable to asume that an engine with that amount of hp (320 flywheel) will roughly cost??

I was reading in 5.0 mag that the Holly Systemax package costs about $2k. They claim that it is a full proof package.

ok guys tell me what you think I've sort of pieced a package together. trw pistons, sealed power rings, michigan 77 rod& main bearings, comp cam 268 H, road lifters, dyna gear double roller timing chain, fel pro gasket set, trw oil pump, weind action pluss manifold, edelbrock 600 cfm, comp cam roller rockers, manley intake and exhaust valves, comp cam valve springs, world dart windsor heads. I would port match, a three angle vavle job, balance the assembly, resurface the heads, recondition the rods and resurface the heads. Will this give me my goal on hp??? the great thing it will be within my budget roughly 2400. Any other suggestion will be greatly apreciated.
