engine life
I recently had someone give me a '90 LX Coupe with a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder. The car appears to have a blown head gasket. The car is in very good shape except for the engine problem. The odometer reads approximately 150,000 miles. Since I paid nothing for the car I could eventually replace the engine. What I would like to do for now is check for cracks and replace the head gasket hoping that cures the problem. My question is, how many miles can a person expect from these engines? My '91 5.0 has over 120,000 miles and still runs very strong.
Anyone with suggestions or opinons? |
my 91 5.0 has 140,000 miles with a blower on it and it is starting to run like ****,lol but thats my fault.
but i would imagine that the 4 cyl. should have alot more life in it. |
My daily driver is a 4 banger. I have 125,000 on it and it still runs great. It has a set of factory 3.73 gears in it so for a four baner it will get with the program to. Since it is a coupe it probably has the 3.73's also. I think that was the most popular for the 4-banger coupe cars. Is your motor the newer style with the coil packs and 8 plugs? I have seen these motors go 200,000 without a problem. I would try replacing teh head gasket and check the head. Drive it until it get some miles on it, Swap in a 351, c-4, and an 8.8 rear and start on the rest of hte modding process. He He He.

No, this engine is the old style. Only one plug per cylinder. I do plan for a 351 at some point. Now I have to decide between the coupe and the convertible. Probably the coupe because it's much lighter.:D
