Default Loss of POWER!!!!!! Please HELP!!

i got on the throttle tonight and at 4500 RPM's the car sounded like it was coughing and lost power. it happened in third gear too. It runs very smooth from 1-4 thousand RPM's but at 4500 it sortof jumps back and misses in a way. I did notice it a cou-ple of weeks ago but havent gottne on it since. it runs fine otherwise. COuld the timing be retarded too much?? I had it adjusted for the nitrous. Any ideas? Thanks. The car is a dog now ;(

Did you make any changes before this happened? Change the timing, modifications? Did this just start happening out of the blue? What mods do you have? It's sort of hard to diagnose a problem without any info.

Mine was doing the same thing last time I drove it. But it didn't start doing it til I was down below 1/2 tank of gas. Fill the tank up full and it runs fine. I did this for 3 tanks of gas and is was always the same. Needless to say, I'm changing the fuel pump as soon as I get the car back. Check the easy stuff first though.

the changes were stated in the first post. I had the timing retarded a few weeks ago becasue i had nitrous put in a couple months ago. ive only used it like 3 times since. other than that, everything else is the same. its very strange. only happens at like 4500 rpm's the car jumps back and the needle does as well. smooth at the lower rpm's and rough at higher rpm's!!

What you need......is an MSD timing retard unit, that way you can run at normal timing until you need the juice, then dial it down 7-8 degrees and fly.If you wanna play with the NOS,you have to spend some money and make some mods.

Check the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator like suggested above. Your timing shouldn't jump like that.

Get a fuel pressure guage that you can read inside the car and go for a drive. It sounds like your fuel pressure is dropping off under high load. Has the filter been changed recently? Even if it has, it may have clogged up if you had some crap in the tank.

now im thinking itmay bae a nitrous problem. i had to go and race a ZO6 when my brother said he was driving it(that thing hauls ***). anyways, it happened when i was trying to use the nitrous. it boggs down or misses. after the racei was on my way home and decided to get on it again to see what happens (without nitrous of course) and it ran perfect!! could turning off the car and then back on have anything to do with it? to answer all the prior questions, I believe they are all stock components! Do you think maybe the nitrous is clogged and bogging down the engine?

Well, I just filled up with super as usual and got on it and it ran fine. im pretty sure that the nitrous needs to be filled (i only hit it 3 times before having problems). maybe because i dont have a bottle warmer it snot spraying it correctly. the NOS isnt working anymore so this must be the problem. ill go and fill it up and see if it works fine. if it does, then i know it is the lack of pressure in the bottle. ill fill it up on monday and let you know. I wonder if i have to pay 40 bucks still even though theres still some in there. anyone know??

All the places out here charge you per pound. Most I've heard of paying at the local speed shops is $3.50 per pound, $40 sounds high to me.

well i brought the tank in to get it filled. the guy said that it was pretty much empty! i used it 3 times successfully before it started to act funny when used it. the guy said that at about 60% left in the bottle it cuold do that. does that sound right? maybe people fill them up after a few sprays to keep pressure in them. I will find out for sure tomorrow when i finally go to the track with it. hopefully i can run mid 13's with it! well see!
