Equal length or Unequal ?????

Just wondering if there is really a significant HP diferance between an equal legnth shorty header compared to an unequal length. I didnt notice any differance on my car. Still ran the same times with either one bolted on.

Back in about 1996 MM&FF did a test of MAC equals, unequals, and longtubes. From what I remember the equal lengths made about 2 more ft/lbs at about 3000rpm, the full length made about an extra 15 ft/lbs and at the top end they were all about the same with the longtubes having a couple more, the equal length actually made 1 less hp than the unequals. They're supposed to scavenge more than the unequals to make more torque but if you want scavenging step up to the longtubes, kinda wish I did.

The more you scavenge with shorties, the less torque you have. Unequals should make more torque than equals. Equals won't do much more for you than unequals as far as hp is concerned. The headers that actually make a difference seem to be the long tubes.

the full length headers give good hp and help deliver a sound that is beautiful to the ears. They also look good!

If I want high quality full length headers, and I don't really want to have to deal with jacking up the engine, which are the best ones to get? BTW, I plan to get these for a 93 cobra and I want to lower the car by about 1.5 inches.

Are there any options? I really like BBK, and $$ isn't an issue unless it gets crazy. I plan to get a supercharger, so I don't want exhaust to be a bottleneck.

if you are going with a supercharger, i would definatley go with the ceramic long tubes, but i think no matter what long tube you go with, you are going to have to jack up the motor. long tubes are a pain to install, but the benefits from having them are worth it

Ahh crud. Ummm...how hard is it to jack up the motor? What is involved?

Thanks,

It is easy money there is only one bolt at the bottom of each motor mount that you have to remove.

Sonics2042 02-12-2002 01:40 PM

But then how do you jack it up/keep it up? Never done anything like this, and don't know anyhting about it :)

Thanks,

I put a board betwen my floor jack and oil pan and jacked it up.

Too easy:cool:
