Default Excessive white smoke at startup after rainfall???

So I went to start up my mustang after a hard day at work and after a heavy rainfall. Right when she kicked over and ran she started to puff white smoke like CRAZY! I gave her some gas, and she smoked more. But it didn't smell bad and I noticed water dripping out of the tail pipe, and the smoke went away once the thermostat kicked in. I only got 100 miles on the engine, any ideas????

Now that I think about it some people get pissed when you call everything smoke. I guess the propoer term is steam but I've had a bad experience with white "smoke" before (like no baffle plate on a lower manifold). Just was curious as to how I could get that much condensation from a normal rain storm.

What's the outside air temp when this is happening? A healthy engine will produce water in it's exhaust, but that sounds a little extreme. have you checked to see if the cooling system level has gone down any? Checked for water in the oil?

Take care,
-Chris

Check the things that PKRWUD suggested first... Sounds like that new head gasket isn't holding. Hopefully not the case

Checked the coolant and it was right there, and there is also a little collant in the overflow container. The oil is above the full line and started to finally turn goldish. I wiped some oil on a rag and felt it, didn't feel like a water was in it. The temp (yesterday when this happened) was about 75-80 all day and then we had a couple thunderstorms which dropped the temp to about 60 degrees. I turned her over this morning and no steam was coming out of the tailpipes, and there was a a heavy dew.

I would guess that you had some condesation form in your exhaust from the humidity and temperature changes. Probably nothing to worry about but keep an eye on your coolant and oil for a couple of days.

I talked to my engine builder today and he says I worry WAY too much. But with my unfortunate luck in the past I have to be concerned when things like this happen. I guess the condensation idea makes more sense when I think about it. I live on top of a small mountain and the temperature did go through a drastic change. Plus, I'm running BBK cats and isn't the job of one of the catalysts to turn some type of exhaust into water??
