Default Exhaust Leak?

Gentlemen, I have a GT40 crate motor in a Cobra replica. Between shifts,(when throttle @ idle) I get a bang through the driver's sidepipe only. I have removed the headers twice, new Felpro gasket, and 1/4" of high temp RTV. Still pops. I checked the header flange and it is straight. This has to be a leak, right? Thanks.

I don't think it has anything to do with exhaust, when did it start doing it, are you EFI or carb'd? Did the crate motor come with injectors and plugs, double check you are using the right plugs and make sure all injectors are firing properly, may sound wierd but you could be running lean on one side of the motor, it will pop between shifts....I could be wrong...

USMC302, thanks for the reply. As it turns out, it was an exhaust leak. The Hooker header ports are so big that the exhaust was flowing over the gaskets. Removed gaskets and now just have RTV only. What I should have done in the first place. Used a stethoscope with a hose attached and it was very obvious where the tick was coming from.
