But anyways, I dont know if the explorer intake with a spacer fits under the stock hood or not cause one of the first mods I did was a 3 inch cobra R hood. |

Also, yes some grs will be needed imo, and if you get a b-cam, or any aftermarket performance cam, you will need at least 3.55 grs, or steeper, or your car will be a dog on the lowend, my 3.27's, (like mentioned before earlier in the thread), are good on the highway, and im still launching hard, even smoking some 373'd stangs, but whatever you think you need. good luck. |
I was only stating my personal experience with gears. I put a cam with 533 .563 lift with 272 284 duration in a heavy 73 F100 with a 308 gear and ran 4 tenths slower when I put in the 373s. That was the only difference. I could "feel" the power but you only go so far in each gear before its gone. But I have been listening and I do understand the posts and emails Ive received on the gear ratio thing so I guess I've been convinced. I will also need a new tranny, any suggestions? Ive read the other posts on the subject of trannys. What about a richmond R.O.D. 6 speed. I know theyre costly but will it be worth it in the long run?

Hey man, im not trying to convince you or anything, im actually relaying what im always told, my friends are always telling me how much difference you feel when you go steeper,
i just cant seem to part with my grs either, so i sort of agree with you, but im sure i will eventually swap for better 60's, but i too have heard of people slowing, or not gaining with a 373 swap, all depends, traction, driving style ect... any luck with finding an intake? |
No luck with finding an intake yet, called the local salvage yards. But I have plenty of other things to buy for awhile so Ill just keep my eye out for one. As far as the gears go, you will definatly feel a difference but your gears wont cover the same distance. Coupe, sorry if I seemed snappy to your reply, Everyones telling me the same thing your friends are telling you. GEARS,GEARS,GEARS!!! I still believe they really only help in the holeshot cause after that the difference in the tranny will take over. Maybe not and I see everyones point on gears but I may have to learn the hard way. It seems so simple but for some reason I just cant get it through my head. Thanks for your reply as well as everyone elses. So, Im taking it that everyone thinks the rest of my plans as far as the engine build are o.k..??Thanks again to all

here are a few
Number one
Number Two Unfortunately these do not have EGR nor the throttle bodies but one will show up sooner or later. |
3.73 gears
Believe me...you can do nothing but benefit from installing 3.73 gears.

I drilled
I drilled and tapped for the EGR water feed line and the ACT on my explorer intake.
|
you shouldn't bid on number 1 cuz im bidding on that right now.... hehe
|
ok, so you don't have to drill for the act sensor, but do you still have to drill for the egr water lines or is there a way around that? you said you didn't drill anything so I assume theres a way around it or your not running water to the egr anymore right?
|
I drilled for both
I think 9/16" drill and 3/8 NPT TAP threads. The bosses are there waiting to be tapped.
I will try and post a picture tomorrow. |
I appreciate the thought BOBASAURUS,I saw those but Ive got plenty of time to wait for one with a throttle body. So dont worry about me AGENT_4573, but you might want to worry about them last minute bidders. I still gotta get my pistons, lifters, cam, roller rockers, timing gear, bolt set, injectors, starter, alt, power steering pump, radiator, tranny,GEARS,etc, so I got a lot of time to look around for an intake. Does the list ever get shorter? Seems like Ive bought alot already. Well anyway, Thanks for all the great info from everyone, I appreciate it. Any other suggestions on what I should get for my build up are welcome.

Explorer
You might want to watch which one you go for - some have the EGR passage and some don't.
Here's some good info on them. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/F.../Explorer.html http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/..._overload.html http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/5755/gt40p.html |
