Sorry I didnt see your post earlier. Yes the explorer intakes on E-bay are good and offer great performance, the explorer intake is a great naturaly aspirated intake.
I got mine off of e-bay for $200.00 brand new. You do have to modify it a little bit to get it to work. If you get one PM me and I will walk you through it. If you do get the explorer intake our set-ups will be nearly identical. Good luck,

and if you are still running the coolant lines to your throttle body you have to tapp a hole in your #4 runner. You can bypass this step by not running coolant lines to your throttle body. Thats what I did. Easy money,

Dark 5.0 and BIG RED
What kind of times does that setup produce for you DARK 5.0? If you dont mind letting everyone know, if not please email me so Ill know what to expect. Thanks for your response. Any idea what year explorer intake i need? BIG RED, I may change the gear ratio soon after but its been my experience that they only help just off the line. I know it sounds crazy but after i put 373s on my 73 F100 W/ a 390 my 1/8 mile times went down some. I mean if you go through the 1/4 mile traps in 4th gear w/ 373s and Im just shifting into 3rd then my tranny gears kinda make up that difference. Dont want to give up traction and mpg for only a feeling of going quicker. But hey, thats just my theory and Im sure someone could get me to see it differently. Thanks for your response. I appreciate any and all help.

Get different gears. Go at least 3.27's. It what i have and i like em cuz its a good median between acceleration and gas milage. If you want to, get 3.73's there really popular and i hear stories of people still pulling close to 20mpg with em. but 2.73's will kill your car no matter what set up you have on it.

I pull about 19 mpg city and about 23 hwy with my current combo. I see no difference in mpg. But, to each his own. I like the gears and Joe Schmo might not. Any way it goes, if you are happy with your car, it's a good combo.

My 5.0 consist of.....
Ported , polished , and milled E7's Explorer intake, 3/8 inch phenolic spacer 65mm TB 67mm EGR under drive pullies Aeromotive FPR 1 5/8 equal length headers O/R X-pipe 2 chamber flows dumped 3 .73 gears Ford racing clutch sub frame connectors lower control arms steeda tri-ax shifter 27X10X16 slicks Last time I went to the track all I could do was mid 13's @102mph.........That was before my Throttle body and slicks. I fully expect to run a high 12 next time I go the track. Keep in mind I am at 3000ft of altitude and my car is a convertible. Later,

Dark 5.0
I guess you were posting at the same time as me cause i just now read your post. Sounds good,no power adders? I just want to be in the 12s and still be streetable. Gas milage is not that big of a concern, i know hot rodding and gas milage dont go hand and hand but I want something better than my 390 F100 cause it only getting 9 mile to the gallon on the highway. Thanks again.

Dark 5.0: can you run the spacer in the explorer intake w/ a stock hood or do you have a cowl hood?

Think Junk yard or used intake
When I got my explorer intake off ebay I shopped around for weeks and finally found a "used" one with extras. The junk yard shipped it with 65mm TB, 1997 model 19lbs injectors, and it had the EGR built-in ( which is great to find!!!)
If you get one of the "new" ones on ebay it will probably not have EGR and no extra's. My seller was actually a GREANLEAF salvage yard.

TB and intake
I think stock 5.0 TB is 50 or 55MM. The explorer TB is noticable bigger.
The early 5.0 explorers 1996-1997 have the EGR passages even though they are not used. You can tell when you take the upper off. Look for the little black hole in the middle. Also you can get some good GT-40P or GT40 heads off those engines.

Thanks alot. Ill look into the intake deal. Would it be benificial for me to invest in the heads? I mean i already have my E7s shaved,3 angle valve job, removed air hump, polished. Dont want to waste money. Especially now, got a temp lay off today. All this time but not enough money to do much. Thanks again to everyone

the e7's are crap no matter what you do to em. With all that done to em, i guess there nto to bad, but a set of heads would be the best thing you could get for your car. you can get a brand new set of gt40p heads for under 500 bucks. They'll go real nice w/ that new explorer intake of yours.
