Question Mexican engine block

I bought an engine from a guy near my home who said that the engine was from a 77 van. When I got it home, after some research, I found out that it was actually a Mexican block not a standard windsor block. I know diddly about what makes it different from a standard block. (I.E. - Will a standard 302 rebuild kit fit?) Anybody out there know???

Mexican, eh? Never heard of that. You sure its not a 351M? (the M standing for Modified) The M was a predecessor of the Cleveland, so a lot of parts for it are interchangable.

First off, the 302 is not a Windsor. Technically, it's a Cleveland, but we won't get into that. The Mexican blocks were rumored to be better than the Cleveland blocks, but that is not true. The parts will exchange, because the blocks have the same dimensions, it's just that the Mexican blocks have a different nickle content, and aren't as strong.

Take care,
~Chris

Lightbulb My Mexican casting number

Thanks for that bit of info. I thought that I'd post the casting number to help anyone else who might want to chime in. It's 75ZY-6015-AA. I'm going to go do some more Net research to see what I can dig up myself.
