F303 and E7's
Will the stock springs handle the lift of an F303? Don't know much about the E7's, so I thought I'd ask before I break some springs in my brother's heads.

No the stock springs cannot handle an F-303 cam. Not to mention if your heads are unported its a waste of time and money to install a cam that big. By the time you reach the cams power band your heads will have peaked long ago.

What he said.
I was using an e-cam with stock springs, and the car felt like it hit a brick wall at 5400 rpm, put on some cheap comp springs with a damper, and now it revs to 6250 without floating the valves, i shift around 5600 with my cam though.

I know that the cam is overkill for e7's, by all means, the e cam is overkill. I had it and he wants it. We were just going to put it in so when he gets the afr 165's, all we got to do is swap the heads. And it is much easier to put a cam in on the engine stand than in the car. Will the f cam break the springs?
Coupe50h, what kind of springs did you get?

I dont think the F-cam will break the springs but you may have trouble in the upper rpms floating the valves.
If you plan on doing a head swap in the near future I would go ahead and drop in the cam. Cause it is alot easier to install a cam with the motor on a stand like you said. Good luck,

You may get away with it, but you'd be pushing your luck. The stock spring pressure isn't great and you may be in danger of coil bind as well.

What exactly is "floating the valves"? I have heard this time and time again. I have a pretty good idea of what it means, but I had rather know.

guys who have done this often before, correct me if I am wrong. I believe it sounds like crap when the car is revved to high. The only few times I have seen it done, sounded like a cross between fouled plugs and a car that is revved to the limit pill (like a MSD 6AL).

It means that the valves are unable to seat fully before the end of the compression stroke and the plug fires while the valve is slightly open. valve float = almost no compression at high RPM + mega nasty sounds coming out of the exhaust

you might try looking at old post using search, but i dont remember the part# cca-942 is what i want to say, but not sure?
I suggest you get the crane kit made for 5.0s so you have all the right retainers, im probaly near coil bind using my stock retainers with these springs.
