Default factory forged pistons?

just wondering if anyone knows the whole story on the late 80 early 90 5.0L mustang short blocks? always heard that the 89 short blocks were the best due to factory forged pistons. i've heard that was the only year they produced them, and also heard that they produced them with factory forged pistons from 87-92, and 93 with hypertectic pistons. can anyone clear this myth up for me?
