![]() I crawled under my car to measure the one muffler I need to replace just to make sure the parts store sell me the correct one and unless I am wrong, it looks like the mufflers are welded from the factory. Is that what I am seeing!!
Does that mean I won't be able to replace the mufflers without going to a shop and have them cut off? It was getting dark outside and I didn't have a flashlight handy so I am hoping that it only "looks" that way. Please don't tell me that Ford welded the exhaust together....say it ain't so!! I notice you can buy "exhaust repair kits". Is that acceptable by inspection mechanics? You see, I don't want to spend major dollars on my exhaust unless I am going to install a complete Flowmaster system which I am not prepared to do yet.

![]() I don't think Flowmaster mufflers came as a factory exhaust on Mustangs for any year. So whoever put the Flowmaster's on for you probably did weld them because they do last a long time. As far as replacement, they arent hard to replace. If cut right, adaptors are available for replacement of mufflers. An exhaust shop will do the job for u for about an hour's worth of labor.

![]() yes, the factory exhaust is welded, and even it it wasnt, it would probably have to be cut off anyway. Once those exhaust clamps "crimp" the tubes, they dont come apart easily.
you can cut it yourself easily , even with a dremel and a cut off wheel |

![]() Blue Gt5.0, I didn't say it had factory flowmaster exhaust. I know that. I was sayiing I didn't want to spend tons of money UNLESS I was going with a flowmaster system. My '82 GT already has the flowmasters but my '88GT is factory.

![]() The Flowmaster American Thunder Cat back will set you back $226, and usually around $50 for a muffler shop to do the complete install.
