![]() Hey, I just got a used 3G alternator off of a 95 GT and it looks really nasty. I was thinking about sanding it down, priming it and painting it silver to match my march alternator bracket. My question is: Would I do any damage to it by any chance by painting it?

![]() I've managed to wash, sand, polish and paint every piece of external engine hardware from the alternator to the distributor cap and the clutch fan and I have yet to have any problems as a result of the paint.
Have fun! For silver, try the duplicolor chrome spraypaint: comes out almost mirrored. You'll have to clearcoat over it as it "smudges" if you try to polish it. I painted an entire 79 fiat spider mirrored once. Was great: I could blind people around me on a sunny day
