Default finding ideal fuel pressure

how can i do it (without a dyno tune)? im trying to find the ideal fuel pressure for my mustang. this is what i have so far:
i have it set at 39 (vacuum off). and the plugs are a nice golden brown. although, my car is having a hard time starting when hot and the oil smells like gas.
im not getting any smoke out of the exhaust or anything.

thank you,
adam

Take it to the track and make some passes with different pressures

Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. It's not even as easy as Mach 1 suggested. The only way to really do it right is to take it to a dyno with a wideband O2 sensor, figure out what the optimal air/fuel ratio is and then have a chip made. I'm working on a longer description about why this is so and I will post it later when I get the time.

thanks,
adam

Make sure that you don't have a faulty FPR. It's possible for fuel to be sucked into the intake via the vacuum port. Also, make sure that your PCV valve is working correctly. Both of these things can cause a hard start problem.

well i know my FPR doesnt leak any, but the PCV is interesting...

right now i have the PCV hooked up like normal, but the tube that goes to the TB from the valve cover is no longer there. i have a breather on the valve cover. the reason i did this id because i have a TB from an explorer (no provision for that tube). so i just stuck a breather on the valve cover.

what should i try first to fix this IF its the problem...?

thanks,
adam
