First post
I've been a lurker on this board since August when i bought my 93 mustang gt. I'm finally ready to start modding my car(on a high school students part-time salary). I decided to start on the exhaust. I just bought the magnaflow cat-back and am wondering if you guys would prefer the prochamber, the dr. gas or bassani x-pipe. Also what headers do u prefer? Im thinking equal length shorties only because i need to bolt my stock h-pipe on for emissions.
Thanx |
Welcome. HI I had a bassani x-pipe I loved it very good Ex.

Welcome first of all. Hedman makes a nice set of 1-1/2" long tube headers you can pick up from summit for $100. I used a set and ran 7.81 in the 1/8th with them. Buying those headers and spending I think another $100 on an h-pipe to fit long tube headers will make a good combination to start off with. Then as the money presents itself you can step up to a nice set of 1-5/8" long tubes down the road.

Summit also has a set of Flowtech 1 5/8" full lenght headers for about $101. THey would be better than the 1 1/2" ones.

By the way, i have an AOD. Will these longtubes fit??

If you want to go longtubes that's fine. I've got the BBK unequal shorties and the Bassani off road x. If I was to do it over I'd get the FRPP shorty headers for about $20 more, they have the one peice flange that makes 'em a better quality piece. I have no problem switching the stock h and Bassani x with my set up when I have to go to emmisions. I don't think the Long tubes will help very much until you start getting into new heads, cam and intake. If you are going to go with new heads, cam intake and all the other mods that go with them (tb, maf, fpr, exhaust, suspension etc.) then it might be a good idea to think long term and go with Long tubes. Remember that you willl have to have an H pipe to fit and cats to go with them and that ain't no $100 pipe, more like $250 - $300.

first off, do not get equal shortys, I bought some bbk 1-5/8" equal shortys, and then found out it will be about a 4 hour job to put them on. if your into headers so you can bolt on the stock h-pipe for emissions like i am, i would stick to the stock headers until you have ported your heads/aftermarket heads and intake.
you could also look at underdrive pulleys, ram air, a shifter (example Steeda Tri-Ax)....... |
