Unhappy fiveohpatrol's disheartening pictures

Here's the locked up pump.

And here is what locked it up. Any guesses as to what this is?

The pump shaft. It looks like a twizlers

That looks a lot like the spacers in the stock Ford valve cover gaskets. They are located around the screw holes. When I did my heads I made sure I had all of them.

Hmm, it sure looks like a dime to me. Always remember to empty your pockets before leaning over the engine.

I'm not sure why you are comparing the dime to that other doohicky. I'm pretty sure a dime is dime sized.

Seriously, though, do you think epoxying screens over some of the oil passage inlets could have prevented that from happening? That really sucks. Did the cam gear get damaged, too?

That's not a spacer from a valve cover. A valve cover spacer has a hole through it for the bolt.

And for the funny guy above... the dime is actually quarter sized. Adjust your screen resolution and you will see LOL

When I did my cam etc. swap in Feb, My stock FORD valve cover gaskets had one solid spacer on each side of every valve cover bolt hole. I bet you money that is what is in the picture. I know this cause my friend who helped me is a mechanic and he told me before I removed my valve covers to make sure I account for all the little spacers cause they are known to cause problems.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I have no idea what that thing is and don't remeber them being in my stock valve cover gaskets, I'll look when I get home. Did it do anything to the distributor

I don't have any idea what the top speed in 1st gear was. I never really paid attention. I do know from the RPM's and MPH on the highway in 5th gear that I had 2.73's. Not to mention the tag on the door said the same thing. I also have no idea what kinda HP I am pushing to the wheels. I'd guess somewhere between 270-280RWHP but that could be a bit of a wild guess too.

BTW, that time was with the passenger tire spinning and the car was driven by fiveohpatrol. The tranny went out before we could try any more runs to get it faster. It now has 3.73's in it so those times will be changing if I can ever get a good T5 to hold up in it

the only thing i can think of is something from inside the pump or pickup, because something of that size doesnt seem like it would be able to get past the screen in the pickup, oh yah and the distibutor looked fine, but i will definately take a close inspection of it before i put it back in, thanks for posting the pics kevin

Take a look at the pump. There is a a bypass valve in there that is about that big around in places but should be over an inch long. The only place it can come from is the pump or the distributor. You would be amazed at the stuff that will go through the screen but nothing like that. Look on the brigh side, you can at least identfy the parts.I lost a motor last year & never found a rod cap or all of the pump drive shaft (unless they were that pile of glitter in the pan).

Thumbs up

I know you guys cann't see it too well on the screen, but in person, that small piece that locked the pump up has directional wear marks on it. Similiar to how a valve tip get worn by a rocker arm. And yes it looks like it could be the same diameter as the "plunger" inside the oil pump. I noticed that a few days ago, but haven't had time to take it apart yet.....yet.

I thought it looked a lot like the top of a valve, but I figure you would have opened it up & saw valve train damage. If that is what it is, how do you bust the top off a valve & get it to the pump? (High rpm, bent valve & nitrous pops won't do it. done those..) I know the next time the intake is off I'm gonna epaxy some screens in to keep $hit out.

Scary i had that damn thing in my pan to when my shaft got rpped to pieces. My lifter came undone somehow and stuff came out of it. I also had a small spring in the pan as well. I dont know what it was but my rocker arm and pushrod got an *** whoopin when i lost all my pressure.
