Which flexplate should I use with c-4?
I thought I knew what I needed but after buying a used flexplate I'm coming up with conflicting info/results. Here's where I am so far. I'm using my '88 5.0 and I want to install the C4 that I just built. According to one of my parts sources they're telling me that I need the 157 tooth 50 oz flexplate. That's what I thought I bought but after counting the teeth I found out that I bought the 164 tooth flexplate. When I hold this flexplate in the bellhousing of the C4 there isn't a whole lot of clearance but as far as I can tell it looks like the starter wants to mate up with the 164 tooth wheel. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

You need to get the B&M flexplate made specifically for this purpose. Using an older, smaller flexplate will not work, as you already know. The B&M is made for the post-'82 5.0L's and C4 autos. Can't remember the exact part number, but you should be able to find it online. I did. Think the URL is http://www.bmracing.com
BTW, the starter should work OK. I had to fudge around with starters for a while to get one that would work with my headers. I'm pretty sure almost all small block Ford starters have the same gear tooth count on them. At least the bendix for them is all the same one!

Thanks Capri306. I found it in Summit for $105. Figures it wouldn't be the cheap one.
