Default Quad shocks...Keep em or ditch em?

I'm in the process of detailing my rear suspension and want to get rid of the quad shocks. I already had to flip them to fit my tires but now I want them gone. I know they help hold the axle and keep it from moving but will I notice a big diffrence with them removed?

Also, will my launches and 60' times be affected if I don't have the quad shocks?

If you have upgraded control arms you can remove them. If you're running stock control arms and you remove them you will get wheel hop.

A car with quad shocks may have slight wheel hop anyway, but you'll never feel it because it's absorbed and dampened by the quads. Take it off and your rear axle with hop to the point where it feels like it's going to break. How do i know? My car had the quads taken off with stock bushings and it was so horrible i couldn't accelerate in 1st gear. I just installed springs, polyurethane bushings, adjustable control arms, ALL just to GET RID of the wheel hop and help me hook up. a primary factor was i couldn't use 1st gear ever, and my best 60 foot time ever was a 2.14 with a 13.99 run @100.47.

For your own sanity, retain the quads, unless you don't mind severe punishing wheel hop.

Since I'm still running the stock control arms, I guess I'll have to keep the quads for now

It isn't a terribly big issue if they stay. I was just wondering if it was ok to get rid of them. For now, they stay because I don't want to deal with any wheel hop. I guess I better get back in the garage so I can get the suspension cleaned up and finally DRIVE!!

Which control arms did you buy? Look under your car on the rear axle. The regular rear shock looks vertical, the small shock connected to the axle sort of horizontally, is the quad shock.

I just put it some Mega Bite Jr.'s and took off the quads because they were trashed anyways. I have no noticably wheel hop.

I had no wheel hop without quad shocks.
Here's my theory-they are to compensate for the stupid oval bushings in the stock 83-present lower control arms. 79-82 cars have proper round bushings on both sides of the lower control arm and slapper bars, but when they switched to the oval bushings in 83, the slapper bars no longer worked to get rid of the wheel hop so they changed to the quad shock design in mid 84.
So if you are using a lower control arm with round bushings than you shouldn't need the quads.

i have different lower control arms and 50/50 shocks in back...with stock pony wheels and worn out tires there no wheel hop..but with my aftermarket wheels and nitto DR's it has wheel hop super bad...

i mainly removed them cause they were shot anyway..one was even cracked in half...but iv been thinken of buying some new ones to put on upside down to clear my tires..that or get aftermarket upper arms and see if that helps
