it is the Flow Master or the Mustang?

So it it the power of the V8 Mustang that makes the rumble or the build of the Flow Master? What would happen if you were to put a Flow Master on a 4 banger? I was looking into and old VW Square Back and was wondering what kind of sound I could get out of it using a Flow Mater some how. Its still all in the thinking process.

A Mustang has a disticnt sound, no matter what exhaust systemn you use. Just the other day I sprang up from my seat and told my wife the car that just passed was a Mustang, and sure enough it was. So, I say it's the car. Not the muffler.

The muffler will "enhance" the tone, but it doesn't "create" it.

I'd say it would make any car sound better to put high flow mufflers on it.

The exhaust note will be much diffrent on a V engine then a straight bank engine. The offset of the V patterns firing order sends to exhaust pulses out in a pattern that allows for a stero effect that you can't get with a staight bank, even with dual exhausts. Course, everything sounds better when it's louder...

It's the power of the V-8 Mustang that accounts for the 'sound' you hear from so many 'Stangs.

A four-cylinder engine is never going to produce the same kind of sound - because it can't; totally different engine configuration, dynamics and of course, less engine area.

A free-flowing muffler will make a four (or six) cylinder engine exhaust louder but it usually ends up sounding more like a protracted farting sound on most 4 cylinder cars. Lame.

Keep in mind that most "performance" muffler manufacturers design their mufflers with a specific vehicle type in mind. You could probably get a better sound from the VW with a muffler that was designed for VW's. Of course it won't sound like a Mustang(unless you miraculously fit a 302 in there). If you don't respect the car for what it is, don't get it.
