Default Ford explorer rear in foxbody

I guy I know is interested in putting an explorer rearend in his foxbody mustang and wants to know what he needs to do for it to fit or if it's a direct bolt in like other 8.8 rears?
He wants it because of the 31 spline axles.

That's exactly what I'm running bro. Tell him to get the whole carrier out of the 'Sploder, and it'll literally bolt right in. Axles??? Not sure if the 'Sploder axles will work, I just ordered a new set of Strange axles with the C-clip elims.

Cuz we all know a little "Strange" won't hurt ya!

I don't know as the Explorer has 31 spline. Quite frankly, I'd be surprised if they did. The Explorer is based on the Ranger chassis, and the Ranger uses a rear end that is not symmetrical. The driver's side axle and housing is different from the passenger side, and they were 28 spline at least until '92.

The reason I know this is that the Ranger's are common 5 lug conversion targets for Fox body cars. If I remember correctly, it's 2 drivers side axles from a 83-92 Ranger.

I don't know if the Explorer is offset like the Ranger, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were. Even if the Explorer does have a 31 spline setup.

I'd research more, but the damn Explorer forum requires me to register to view. Screw that crap. I'm sick of signing up for every site on the web.

Just use the 31 spline Explorer (or truck for that matter) carrier and order some good axels for the Fox like Jester said.
