Front End Issues
OK...this question pertains to my 89 Coupe
Since I've owned the car, it has had a wicked vibration over the 60MPH area when you hit the brakes... I had a friend double check my thinking on the problem. I was just going to change a tie rod end that is $hitty and do the brakes, but he is telling me that is my lower control arm bushings...when you go over small potholes at low speeds (5-10),you can hear the front end makes a sound like a bad strut (you know what I mean), but the vibration when the brakes are applied does not occur until you are over 60-ish... My question is if the fox bodies are known for control arm bushings going to poop, or if I should just do the brakes and the tie rod end and keep my fingers crossed...I am hoping that the "bad strut" noise is merely the play in the tie rod, as well as the vibration when the brakes are applied along with slightly warped rotors.... Opinions, suggestions.....thanks in advance ------------------ 1992 5.0 LX, V-1 S-Trim @8LBS,Edelbrock 6037 Heads,Cobra Intake,E-303,1.6 Roller Rockers,65MM Holley TB, 75 MM Pro M Mass Air, 190 LPH FP,24 lb injectors,MSD 6A and BTM,BBK equal length shorties, offroad h-pipe,Mac Flowpath Mufflers,Pro 5.0, 3.73's,Motorsport "C" springs, welded subframe connectors,Ponies w/ 225/50 Nitto NT 450's on front,255/50 BFG Drags out back,93 Cobra Spoiler Daily driver: 89 Coupe with 208K plus, BBK shorties, offroad h-pipe,2-chamber flowmasters with dumps, |

I would get under there and try to wiggle everything possible and see if anything is loose before I started repalcing stuff. As far as I know, I've never heard of there being a problem with the LCA bushings on stangs... although they do wear out like anything else. If it has 208k on it, it's definitely a possbility. Get under it and wiggle! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Another thing, I was going to do the tie rod end because I know it is not too healthy, and the brakes for fun...
TYPICALLY vibration=warped rotors, but I doubt it here.... If the control arm bushings were bad, why would it just vibrate when the brakes are applied??? ------------------ 1992 5.0 LX, V-1 S-Trim @8LBS,Edelbrock 6037 Heads,Cobra Intake,E-303,1.6 Roller Rockers,65MM Holley TB, 75 MM Pro M Mass Air, 190 LPH FP,24 lb injectors,MSD 6A and BTM,BBK equal length shorties,offroad h-pipe,Mac Flowpath Mufflers,Pro 5.0, 3.73's,Motorsport "C" springs,welded subframe connectors,Ponies w/ 225/50 Nitto NT 450's on front,255/50 BFG Drags out back,93 Cobra Spoiler Daily driver: 89 Coupe with 208K plus, BBK shorties,offroad h-pipe,2-chamber flowmasters with dumps, |
Typically if the rotors are warped it will cause a pulsating in the brake pedal, not a front end shake. Think of how much force goes through the front end when you hit the brakes, it's gotta be alot http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif. Anyway with 208k I'd look into getting a bushing kit from somewhere, you'd be surprised how much polyurethane will firm up the suspension. About the tie-rod, always a good idea to replace things if tehy are in bad shape. Good luck man... if you have any questions you can email me at deathblowbob@netzero.net.
