Front Spring Install

Ok.....I cant get my motorsport springs in like some of u did...with no spring compressor. I rented a spring compressor and i cant get them to fit because the big screw hits the top of where the spring would go in. What am i dont this wrong...i think i have the right compressor(internal). I am doing this by myself.

i wouldnt recommend doing this but i used a macpherson strut tool and compressed it that way. you kinda risk your life doing it that way but..........i had to do it:D

Well i was reading on the Corral about a way where in take off the inner A-arm bolts and jack up the while thing...

Or someone said that some shops will compress them and secure them with metal straps.

Dude goto a shop and get the dude off to the side and ask him if he will do it if you throw him like $20bucks or something but I did all my spring jobs myself with the machpherson spring compressor and had no problem but without me seeing it I cant really say what ur doin wrong just trial and error but if your not sure and you do it wrong it can kill ya.

The screw part should be sticking out of the hole in the bottom of the control arm. Put the screw thing through the hole and then pivot the sping onto the upper perch. My guess is you either don't have it compressed enough or you haven't lowered the control arm far enough.
I put a set of eibach drag launch springs in my buddy's 99 GT and we had to really reef on the compressor to get it to compress enough.

the spring compressor wouldnt even fit through the little hole. I wish someone had the real ford spring compressor. Cant rent them anywhere and they are like 250 bucks.

Before I say anything this is extremly dangerous CAN RESULT IN DEATH
Through the compressor away. Put the strut back on. Take the two lower arm bolts out. Get the car as High as you can and pry the lower arm down. If you cannt get the car high enough you will need to get that compressor back. Once the spring is in use a jackstand placed in the centre of the two bolts (the bottom section of the A) to hold the A arm slowly lower the car the arm will go into place.
Hope this helps.
If you are not sure you should take it to a shop. I used to work with these alot and it will rip your head off.

I got the passanger side spring in by taking out the pivot bolts....but i cannot get one of the bolts out on the drivers side. The nut is off...and the bushing's inner sleeve just spins witht he bolt inside the bushing. How do i get the bolt out of there so i can get the car finished already. I have already pounded on it with a hammer.

raptor 04-02-2003 06:21 PM

Get a BIGGER hammer. If it does'nt come out you will have to cut off both ends of the bolt and pry it out.
Hope this helps
