Front Sway Bar..What does it do?
Does the front sway bar help on cornering??? What will happen if I remove it??? Thanks for any help

The front swaybar restricts the A-arms from dropping. When you remove the swaybar the front end becomes much looser. Lifts easier on acceleration.
And weight transfer is better. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif |
Don't remove it except at the dragstrip. It can make high speed cornering kind of squirrely.

Well what if I do no high speed cornering??

The sway bar helps control body roll (or sway) during cornering.
When the car rolls, it removes weight, and therefore contact patch and grip from a tire, along with making the vehicle more unstable. When you remove the swaybar, it alters the handling of your car significantly. Although it may be good for a tenth, I like to turn my daily driver, so I like having mine on. LOL, I've had a bushing go out on mine, felt like I was gonna roll right off the road on every backroad corner for the first few miles, hehe. |
So Skyler, you say that it helps w/traction when you take it off?? Do u have yours on??? I am having major problems w/traction..

I removed mine and it was a little hairy at first, but you get used to it. I have skinnies on the front so there is no use of having it on anyway. I did notice a Major difference in weight transfer. My short times are always in the 1.6 zone.

It will help with traction, but if you're using regular street radials, you won't see much of a difference in your ET. For traction, get some slicks.

Leave the Swaybar on and stick a short belt on (that will help your ET)

dude, pulling it off at the strip, then putting it on, is a pain, just pull it off, i actualy felt very little diferrence in cornering, then again my car is light anyway, but i pulled mine and went 1.9 60' on these cheesie tires.

Mine is still on. With street tires (225's) I can't hook worth **** on the street.
I got rid of my saleen suspension and went with 70/30s up front, 50/50's in the rear, and Eibach drag launch springs. On the street it now spings through 2nd instead of 3rd, so street traction still sucks, but w/ slick on at the track it puts both front tires in the air with the sway bar still on. Im gonna run it off next time. sky, i bet you'd gain more than a tenth, being your car is modded, i can imagine how it will yank the front tires with it off.
everyone i know that is serious about going fast in a mustnag, takes the front sway off, down here anyway, or i seen guys with the steeda (light bar) or just pull the end links and let it hang, so you can get some lift up there. O sky i would like to see you post a vid of you at the track http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif |
Taking it off does not make your car uncontrollable, etc... I've had mine off for a couple years. Drives fine.
