Default paint help..please..

Sup all..

This one is for the body and paint folks out there.

Long story...short version... My new garage door fell on my 88 saleen coupe.. ( yes i tried to catch it ..torqued my back)

The car is scarlet red.. with gold accents
long scrathes down the roof and the deck lid with some damage to the fin..

quotes to repaint the car have been roughly $6,500.00

I will be fighting like h*ll to get the car repainted...but..
heres the question

If they try to repair it can you color match 14 year old paint and not have it be 2 tone?

Adjuster comes out tomarrow.

Sounds a little pricey for getting it fixed even though i haven't seen it. We do all-overs at the shop i work at and they aren't quite that much. As far as a color match im sure the car has been garaged and looks brand new. Meaning that the sun and acid rain hasn't attacked the finish and made it dull. And they will aslo be "blending" the paint into the adjacent panels which makes the new color gradually disappear into the old which is unnoticeable to the eye. Don't worry dude, its should be fine- but that still sucks. -What paint line does the shop spray ie. DuPont, PPG etc.?

go to Like 5 or more shops
But yes it might not look the same if they only paint some of it... I would get the car repainted if you have the $$$ and it should be no More than 3,000 I got prices from 1900-4200 for my car I ended up doing it myself for about 900 for every thing.

Thanks for the replies guys.
The $6,500.00 quote was to repaint the whole car. That would include bringing the old paint down, reprimming and respraying.
That also included replacing all the stock Saleen graphics and Ford emblems.

The door company will be sending thier adjuster out tomarrow to look at the car. I sure as h*ll wont be paying for the paint job ..hehehe. ( at least I hope not )

The quote was 100 hrs of labor..1k for the paint and about 600 for the various grapics.

I dont know what kind of paint they would spray on it ..but I will ask now.

as far as I know this car is one of 24 coupes built by Saleen in 88, and the only Scarlet Red one I know of.

When I had my mustang repainted at a supposedly great A+ paint place the paint did not match at all....The car was not out in the sun alot and it only have 80000 miles on it. Although they say blue is one of the harder colors to match. I would repaint the whole car if I was you.

That sucks about your car man, but a good paint shop shouldbe able to blend new paint with the old no problem. Do you have any pics of your car, ive never seen a saleen coupe before. Good luck man, I hope everything turns out for you. John
