Fuel Pump or TFI Module ???

My car started acting up the other day...again! It ran fine on the highway, but when I got into some heavy traffic, it started to idle down, backfired when I have it gas, and then stalled out.

I replaced the TFI module for the second time, and it was fine until I got into traffic again, and the same thing happened.

I have the car over at a performance shop now, and they are the first ones to say that it is not the TFI module, but a failing fuel pump (the pump was getting pretty noisy prior to this). So they are going to replace it and they say that it should be problem solved.

My question is this....When the problem first happened, we ran the codes on it, and it showed a bad TFI module. The same module is in now, and the car has been running fine. Would a failing pump show the same signs as a bad TFI module? They are telling me that the heat caused the pump to fail, so it needs to be replaced.

Please give me some of your feedback....This is driving me up the wall!!!! Thanks!

Mike

Did you figure out what the real problem was?
My 87 GT is doing the exact same thing, I'm gonna run it
through a code scanner maybe it's something else besides the pump.
