Fuel pump question
New fuel pumps are not supposed to whine loud, right? I was looking at this 93 GT and the fuel pump was real loud. The guy told me it was new and his mechanic said they do that sometimes. I always thought they were supposed to make a quiet humming sound.
Thanks.

Depends on how loud you are talking. I have a new 190lph fuel pump and it still whines or humms. It is not as loud as the old one. My point is, my new one has whined from day one. You can't always here it. I know from experience the whine changes depending on the amount of gas in the car. Either way it shoudn't be a deciding factor in purchasing the car. Ask the guy to show a receipt for the fuel pump.

Is it an in tank or an inline pump? My inline can be heard for miles, just kidding, but it it loud. I've heard some in tank pumps that were pretty loud to. Anything new and louder than your use to is going to seem really loud right now, you'll get use to it. Check your fuel pressure, if it's ok, the pump's ok.

I just put a brand new 190 lph pump in and I can hear it humm... it's quiet, but I still hear it over my exhaust. But I guess it's quiet to me because my stock one was original with 170K + miles on it so that thing was singing to me!
