gear oil?

I had my gears swapped to 373s about 2 years ago. I put about 500 miles on right away but now it has been sitting since then. I want to change my gear oil as well as all my other fluids before taking it out.

What type of gear oil should i put in my rear end? I have heard that ford uses a special kind that you have to get from the dealer. I dont wanna use the wrong thing.

Also, are there any tricks to filling it? How much oil should it take? I dont wanna over or under fill it. Usually you just fill up until it comes out the fill hole :) Also does anyone have any tricks for filling up? I dont have a professional pump and it is impossible with a funnel since the hole is in a tight spot and also on the side of the housing.

Thanks

When Lone Star Performance (Dallas TX) did my 3.73's they used Redline Synthetic Gear oil (80 or 90 weight I believe). I'm not aware of any special lubricant required.

yea man, you can squeeze that oil in usually, but last time i spilled more than i got in, now i have an 8$ pump/syphon, that makes it a whole lot easier....... as far as type of oil, use differential gear oil, read the back and make sure it is for limited slip, you have to add an additive called 'friction modifier' the dealer gear oil already has this mixed if im not mistaken, i just added a tube of it to my 80w90 coastal oil, everything is fine so far, some people use synthetic but i see no point in it.

I like the synthetic gear oil. You dont need the friction modifier additive with it either.

ya i was thinking of getting a crappy little siphon hose like they sell at any walmart (has a little bulb for a pump) but i wasnt sure if this would work since they are usually junk right out of the package. Not to mention, the gear oil is usually so damn thick that i wasnt sure it would siphon through a hole that small.

rear end gear oil

Synthetic for tranny and engine. You need to stay with reg. gear oil use friction modifier if you are running any type of equal lock (posi).

Naw the bulb kind no good for gear oil,

I have one that has a pump on top kinda like pumping ketchup out of a big container you know...?:D it's simple
btw, the guy that rebuilt my t-5 says that he doesnt use synthetics in his t-5's. (for the comment above) but i dont see what it would hurt except your wallet.
