I've heard that with high torque engines that 3.55 gears are a good choice because it's easier to hook up, plus you don't need as much gear to get it up in the power band because there will always be tons of lowend torque on an engine that size. I've heard the same thing for strokers and roots supercharged engines.
I love the 3.55 gears in my car and think they're perfect. Not bad on the freeway and the car is always at or near the powerband.
Some people may have differing opinions but 3.55's are the way that i'd go.
