Gears for my car
Here's the deal. I have a 4 banger that needs a little bit more get up and go. So I was thinking about buying some gears for it here soon. I was thinking 3.73's. I was just wondering if I would have any problems. Like will they even work with my car?
Would I have to buy different axles? It's a 92 LX and I have no clue if it's a 7.5 inch or a 8.8 rear. Do they even sell gears for the 7.5? As you can see I'm kind of in the dark with this so any help would be great!

I'm pretty sure they sell gears for the smaller rear, but, they cost more $$
Prob. better to get an 8.8" rear if you ever plan on converting to a 5.0

go onto the Summit racing or Jegs web site, in the online catalogue, they will show you a pic of the rearend covers shape. match it to yours..
the 7.5 is more oval than the 8.8... yes, they do sell gears for the 7.5.. and if your strapped for cash, i have seen them being sold on ebay for less than $100. and i'm not really sure if your car would be posi?? you could also check some salvage yards, they may have a posi carrier with 3:73's.. good vehicles to check would be bronco 2's.

My friend has a 92 4cyl conv with an AT, and the stock ratio for his car is actually 3:73. I have heard that smaller engines have better gear ratios. Might want to see what you have in your rear first, before buying new gears. Good Luck
